Simply enter the amount, pick the applicable GST rate, and choose whether you want to add or remove GST, the calculator instantly shows the tax amount, its CGST/SGST split, and the total value.
What is GST?
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple earlier indirect taxes and is charged at different rate slabs depending on the category of the item, commonly 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. For transactions within the same state, GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST); for inter-state transactions, it is charged as IGST (Integrated GST) instead.
What is a GST Calculator?
A GST Calculator is an online tool that computes the tax amount and total value for a given price and GST rate. It works both ways, you can add GST to a base amount to see the final price, or remove GST from a tax-inclusive amount to find the original base price and the tax embedded in it. This saves you from manually working out the maths every time you need to check a bill or quote a price.
How Does the GST Calculator Work?
The calculator uses two simple formulas depending on the mode you choose:
Add GST: GST = A × g; Total = A × (1 + g)
Remove GST: Base = A ÷ (1 + g); GST = A − Base
Where:
- A = the amount you enter
- g = the GST rate expressed as a decimal (e.g. 18% = 0.18)
- GST = the tax amount, split equally into CGST and SGST
How to Use the Indiabulls Securities GST Calculator
First, choose whether you want to Add GST to a base amount or Remove GST from a tax-inclusive amount. Next, enter the amount and pick the applicable GST rate from the available slabs, or select Custom to enter your own rate. The calculator instantly displays the base amount, the CGST and SGST breakup, the total GST, and the final total amount.
GST Calculation Example
Suppose you have a base amount of ₹1,000 and the applicable GST rate is 18%. Adding GST gives a tax of ₹1,000 x 18% = ₹180 (CGST ₹90 + SGST ₹90), taking the total billed amount to ₹1,180. If you instead start with a GST-inclusive amount of ₹1,180 at 18% and remove GST, you get back the original base amount of ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000.
